Center of Gravity

The center of gravity of an airplane is the point where weight is equally distributed. The airplane would be perfectly balanced at this point.

When you add people, fuel, and baggage to an empty airplane, the center of gravity can change. Pilots compute a weight and balance calculation in order to make sure the center of gravity stays within a range that is safe for flying.
